Introduction To Reservoir Development For Beginning Petroleum Geologists

During relatively low oil prices, beginning petroleum geologists often find employment by economically developing existing oil reservoirs. Typically only 30% to 35% (conventional reservoir) and only 5% to 8% (unconventional reservoir) of the oil in place is produced by primary production. This course will show the principles of reservoir characterization by computer models and discuss the parameter of porosity and permeability distribution and the role of reservoir heterogeneity and fractures.
Dr. Norman J. Hyne is a certified petroleum geologist and a Professor of Petroleum Geology in Continuing Engineering and Science Education at the University of Tulsa. Previous to that, he was chairman of the Geology and Geophysics Department and is best known for his short course “Basic Petroleum Geology for the Non-Geologist” that he has taught on six continents to over 35 thousand students. He has written or edited 8 books and many research papers on sedimentary rocks and petroleum geology.
