Lincoln Haymarket
Nebraska State Capitol
In response to westward migration and the call for a trans-continental railroad Franklin Pierce signed the Nebraska-Kansas Act on May 30, 1854 creating the Nebraska Territory. The ensuing controversy over the location of the Territorial Capital in Omaha was not resolved until after Statehood in 1867, when the Legislature voted to move the State Capital south of the Platte River to the western edge of settlement in the new state. The first two Capitols in Lincoln were poorly constructed of inferior materials and by 1915 there was interest in building a third State Capitol. In January of 1919, the Legislature passed the Mears-Tracewell Bill to provide for construction of a new Capitol. Tours are available on the hour (except noon).

Parks and Recreation
Trails Each year about a million “treks” happen on Lincoln’s trails. With over 131 miles of hard surface and crushed rock trails, you can get just about anywhere you want to go using both on and off street routes. There are also several miles of hiker/biker trails within our parks making our system top notch. Whether you ride, run, jump or skip, using Lincoln’s trails are the perfect way to stay fit and save gas!

Museum of American Speed
Founded in 1992 by “Speedy” Bill and Joyce Smith, the Smith Collection Museum of American Speed is dedicated to preserving, interpreting and displaying physical items significant in racing and automotive history.

Lester F Larsen Tractor Test & Power Museum
Head to the Lester F. Larsen Tractor Museum to know understand the importance of the functioning of the tractor in a farmer’s life. Established in the year 1980, the museum is located on the University of Nebraska premises.
